Microsoft Sharepoint Services
Microsoft Sharepoint Services in simple terms is an "off the shelf" intranet solution and is a component part of the Windows 2003 server infrastructure.
It allows business users to share information and applications through a series of websites. It can also act as a platform for custom application development and it's design objective is to promote increased individual and team productivity in any business environment. Whilst this may not be the solution for everyone, Sharepoint Services offers a cost effective intranet solution rather than the more costly custom develop intranet/extranet working environment. As a pre-developed product, it is also easier to customise and deploy.
How it works?
Microsoft Sharepoint Services sites are made up of two basic elements - web pages and ASP.NET components. Web elements are designed to be added to pages by company site administrators or external service providers such as ourselves. Customisation of the look and feel of a Sharepoint Services site can be controlled by Microsoft Frontpage. As an out of the box package Sharepoint comes with a number of built in web parts which acts as a starting point.
